Masdevallia pinocchio 'Karlene'
Masd

Masdevallia pinocchio
Pronunciation: mas-de-VAL-i-a
Alliance: Pleurothallid
Masdevallia pinocchio is a cool to warm growing epiphyte found on the eastern slopes of Andes mountain regions of central Ecuador at altitudes between 1,300 to 1,500 meters (4,200 – 4,900 feet).  Rarely found in nature, Masd. pinocchio successively produces blooms to 2cm (3/4 inch) on triquetrous (triangular) stems in the late spring. The long-lasting flowers have an erect dorsal and a protruding movable lip that wobbles in the wind.

Somewhat difficult to bloom in cultivation, Masd. pinocchio seems to prefer low light, high humidity, and cooler temperatures. The plants will show signs of heat stress in the summer months if not protected from high temperatures.
