Pleurothallis rubella is an intermediate to warm growing epiphyte found at elevations between 1100 – 1400 meters (3,600 – 5,250 ft.). Two color forms are described for this species; the red form grows in Panama and a yellow form grows in Colombia.

Rare in cultivation; Pleurothallis rubella prefers low light, warm temperatures, and high humidity conditions. The flower shown is the Colombian form grown by Bryon Rinke.
